In 1980s Omaha, Eleanor and Park ride the same bus, and they sit together every day. Though they don’t really speak at first, Eleanor reads Park’s comic books over his shoulder every day, and, slowly, they fall in love. But, society seems to be against the pair. Eleanor’s peers judge her and make fun for her weight and her poverty. Her stepfather is abusive and alcoholic, so home isn’t a safe place for her. Park is fairly popular, but his Korean-immigrant family embarrasses him and reminds him that he doesn’t quite fit in. Can their love survive despite obstacles?
