ICYMI: Daughters Unto Devils by Amy Lukavics

daughters-unto-devilsAmanda Verner’s family has decided to move from their remote mountain cabin to the prairie. The sixteen-year-old is happy to leave the cabin behind. It holds memories of Amanda’s mother giving birth to a baby that won’t stop crying, her cabin fever, and horrific visions that caused her to question her sanity. But, Amanda IS glad to leave behind the memory of the boy who helped keep her distracted…whose baby she is now carrying.

When the family arrives at their new home, things seem off. The houses all seem to have been abandoned. The large house they chose to live in has a huge blood stain on the floor. As the days pass, Amanda notices that something isn’t right on the prairie. She’s heard stories of untold evil and of men who lost their minds and killed their families. There is also something strange about the doctor and his son who live in the woods just beyond the prairie. Soon, Amanda can’t tell if the burden and guilt she bears are weighing on her or if the land is truly evil.

I remember being a teen and jumping from my Judy Blume books to Stephen King. No inbetween. I would have loved to have had Amy Lukavics to read back then. She crafts a great story with just the right amount of suspense and a lot of creepy. There are a couple of twists and turns and I thought about this book a lot after I finished it. If you have a teen looking for a scary book to read, I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest it.
