Sierra Santiago planned to have an easy summer painting her first mural and hanging out with friends, but then a zombie-corpse crashes the first party of the season and she’s thrown into a supernatural world she never knew existed. She discovers that her family is part of a secret order called Shadowshapers, who bring paintings alive by connecting them with spirits,and that someone is murdering them one by one.They’re targeting Sierra as well, believing she holds the key to the orders biggest secret.  

Of course, even though Sierra is mixed up in this crazy world, no one will tell her what is really going on or how to stop it. All her abuelo can tell her is “Lo siento” over and over and insist that she finish her mural, with the help of a classmate named Robbie, NOW. With little to go on, Sierra, must unravel the secrets of her family’s past if she’s ever going to figure out who the killer is and save the future of shadowshaping.
